Chaos Radio Express und noch viel mehr von metaebene

Tim_PritloveIch möchte an dieser Stelle mal auf ein wirklich immer wieder bereicherndes Medium hinweisen, den Podcast. Gut die große Hypewelle damals ist durch… und einige haben eben den Hype überstanden und einfach weitergemacht.

chaos_radio_express_logoInsbesondere die ganzen verschieden Podcasts vom Tim Pritlove und dessen Podcast-Netzwerk metaebene sind sehr hörenswert. Herausheben möchte ich den Chaos Radio Express. Zum Beispiel CRE202 zu Hackerfilmen, oder den CRE166 zum Thema Segeln.

Why do I blog this? Ich stoße immer wieder auf Episoden von CRE und Raumzeit. So geschehen gestern als ich mal wieder jemandem vom Segeln erzählt habe. Da fiel mit CRE166 ein, der sehr erschöpfend eine ganze Menge an Dingen zum Segeln vermittelt. Tim hat im Prinzip eine komplette Audiouniversität geschaffen mittlerweile. Jetzt müßte ich bloß noch die Zeit haben das alles anzuhören.

Why do I blog this? Ich habe schlechte Erfahrung gemacht mit Deep-Linking. Daher kopiere ich jetzt immer um ein Kopie zu haben im Fall der Fälle, wenn ein Server für immer den Betrieb einstellen sollte. Der positive Nebeneffekt ist auch, dass ich das Blog dann auch lokal mit allen Daten sichern kann.

ESA App Camp Winners of 2013

The European Space Agency (ESA) held another successful App Camp 2013 this year in Italy. The team that won this years challenge consists of (From right) Jip van Akker, Erik Unger, Evangelos Georgiou and Ulf Küssner an won the first prize at the 2013 App Camp. The team did create a Thermal Guidance System to use satellite data to detect areas of high thermal updraft for aviators. ESA has a detailed report on its Website „App Camp creates new ideas for using satellite data“

In its second year, the App Camp saw 20 developers from 16 countries convene at ESA’s ESRIN centre in Frascati, Italy.

The goal was to develop mobile applications – or apps – using Earth-monitoring data on smartphones, building on the possibilities offered by Europe’s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) programme.

As one of last years first prize winners I am happy to see ESA continued with the concept of bringing in mobile experience to generate fresh ideas and concepts. This years categories of challenge were:

  • Crowd-sourcing in support of GMES
  • Games and Leisure
  • Land-monitoring using GIO Land and
  • Observe and Learn

Created products of the other teams were Springesa (which simulates conditions for growing and harvesting vegetables), Cheetah (a crowdsourcing solution to optimize food transport in Africa by recommending routes), Breathe More, Live More (which uses crowdsourcing to pinpoint areas in large cities with good air quality) and Liferama (information for leisure activities such as fishing, bird-watching and going to the beach).
