Die Kombination von OpenSource und ordentlichen Lizenzkosten ist derzeit noch selten anzutreffen. In Phoenix Arizona, USA sieht die Sache jedoch erheblich anders aus. Dort verlangt das Unternehmen The rSmart Group<\/a><\/strong> f\u00fcr seine Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE)<\/strong> schlanke $10,000 f\u00fcr eine Lizenz mit maximal 2500 Nutzern, OHNE Serverhardware, Datenbanklizenzen und Betriebssysteme<\/strong> wohlgemerkt und nat\u00fcrlich nicht etwa einmalig, sondern j\u00e4hrlich! Das finde ich mal ein Angebot, das mir so auch noch nicht begegnet ist.<\/p>\n

Besonders interessant aber finde ich, dass das Unternehmen angeblich auf der OpenSource Software Sakai aufsetzt mit seiner L\u00f6sung. rSmart behauptet: „We feature the rSmart Sakai CLE, the first fully supported Sakai distribution.“<\/strong>. Zugleich wird betont: „Several rSmart engineers are prominent open source developers and members of the open source community.“ interessant. Als Projektpartner werden Kuali<\/a>, The Open Source Portfolio Initiative (OSPI)<\/a> und Sakai<\/a> genannt. Das Featureset<\/a> der CLE liest sich f\u00fcr meinen Geschmack eher wie eines von vielen und daher unspektakul\u00e4r (bis auf die „Forms“):<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\nSehr ausdrucksstark fand ich folgendes Statement in einem Dokument (als PDF)<\/a> das die rSmart Group zum Download anbietet: „Open source is a way of doing business. Open source is often thought of as free software. In fact, one of the benefits is that anyone can use, modify, and redistribute the software without a license fee. While the code is free, the benefits have much more to do with the freedoms than the cost.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

Das scheint mir in die gleiche Richtung zu gehen, wie der Schritt, den Sun Microsystems mit Java k\u00fcrzlich eingeschlagen hat: Open source is a way of doing business.<\/strong> F\u00fcr die „Kostenlos“ und „Geiz-ist-Geil“-Fraktion bedeutet dies, dass sie sich wohl neue Argumente wird einfallen lassen m\u00fcssen, um den eigenen OS-Lieblingsbrand zu verargumentieren, denn OS gibts jetzt auch als beinhartes Gesch\u00e4ft. OS gab es nie kostenlos, nun aber gibt es OS als Produkt, das man f\u00fcr Geld kaufen kann!<\/p>\n
